Gearing up for winter weather

MOUNT HOPE - With bad weather on the way..., it’s important that you know the best ways to brave the snow and ice as temperatures drop below freezing.

Owner of the American Hardware store in Mount Hope said he hasn't had too many people taking precautions before the storm, but he's sure they'll be in after the snow hits. With a storm on its way, this store is stocked with everything you could need for the winter weather. It’s important to heat the inside of your home and protect your piping, but sanding and salting sidewalks and roads are another safety precaution.

According to how low the temperature drops, makes a difference on what type of material should be used to melt and eliminate ice. Apparently Calcium is the way to go…and its even safe for pets.

Owner of the store, Bob Doredo, said, “rock slat works well if the temperature is above 20 degrees. When you get sub-zero temperatures, and temperatures below 20 degrees, you need to think about using the Calcium. Calcium will take you down to 20 below. It's not as harmful to your sidewalks or your pets. You don't track it in, you might want to think about using the Calcium in the next couple days.”
