BRENTON - A traffic stop led to a drug arrest in Wyoming County.

Harvey Nelson Puckett, 48, of Welch is charged with possession with intent to deliver a Schedule II controlled substance.

A deputy with the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department pulled over Puckett's car in Brenton after it almost caused a crash Tuesday in Brenton on Route 97, according to the criminal complaint. Upon searching the car, the officer found Oxycontin pills, as well as Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine pills. Puckett also had $521 in a money clip in his pocket.

Lieutenant Teddy Riffe said it is important for officers to keep alert during all traffic stops, since a routine traffic stop is not always predictable. “The officers were observant, they noted some things that were out of the ordinary they furthered their investigation and busted a guy for possession with intent to deliver,” he said.

Puckett had been previously arrested for possession with intent to deliver and that charge is still pending, according to the criminal complaint. He is being held in Southern Regional Jail.
