CRAB ORCHARD - A local church hosted a Christmas dinner for the community hoping to celebrate the reason for the season.
Crab Orchard Baptist Church held a mid-day Christmas meal for anyone and everyone that wanted to join. Organizers said a home cooked meal, some Christmas music and fellowship is the best way to get in the Christmas spirit.
The church fed about 600 people at last year's event and expected this year to be just as large. Sue Swepston said the church is the body of people working today, and they are hoping to bring together the entire community to celebrate.
"We are the church, the group that's here working, that is a fantastic group, that's giving up their day on Christmas Eve of being with family or friends... they're here celebrating together as the family. Joining in fellowship with those that we know and those we dont know," said Swepston.
The church also gave out coats, gloves, hats and toys to the children that attended the meal.
