Layoffs made at a local hospital

BECKLEY - A local hospital announces layoffs, to remain competitive in the current economic environment

Raleigh General Hospital, in Beckley announced on Monday the elimination of 14 staff positions. The positions being removed are all non-patient care positions. Other current vacant positions will be eliminated and the hospital will not continue utilizing the practicing registered nurse or PRN positions on a full time basis. The hospital cites significant environmental challenges which effect operational and financial performance

Raleigh General Hospital CEO David Darden issued the following statement, "this is not an easy plan to implement but it is necessary. We are offering every employee impacted by this plan the maximum amount of financial assistance allowed by policy. We will keep those individuals in our thoughts and prayers'''
