BECKLEY - Cross Fit athletes partner together to lift the hearts of kids at a homeless shelter.

Active Fitness and Cross Fit Beckley athletes join together in an effort promote an active lifestyle. The toy collection derived from a friendly "WOD" competition, athletes completed 1,100 REPS in an event themed "Eleven Days of Christmas."

Cross Fitters donated a variety of balls to inspire kids to be active and play soccer, tennis, football and basketball.

"We don't want them sitting in front of the TV the whole time. We want them with a football even if they just throw it up in the air and catch it. You're playing catch with yourself, it just kind of gets them off the couch and hopefully gets them outside."

About 60 items were donated, and they'll all go to the Pine Haven Homeless Shelter this week.
