BECKLEY - Raleigh County Schools received a $1,000,000 grant to go toward major facility upgrades at a local middle school.
The West Virginia School Building Authority awarded the grant yesterday for upgrades at Beckley-Stratton Middle School, according to Raleigh County Superintendent Jim Brown. The money will be coupled with $4.7 million in district capital improvement funds. The improvements will include a new roof, electrical upgrades and window replacement.
The work will be completed this summer, according to Brown. “We expect that when students come back to school in the fall, they're going to notice a definite change to the overall school climate at their facility,” he said.
Brown said this project is the first phase of a major capital improvement plan initiated by the Raleigh County Board of Education.
