BECKLEY - Beckley will have a new Mayor beginning January of 2014 throughout 2016.
One of four candidates will be selected to finish out the term of current Mayor Emmett Pugh. On Tuesday Cedric Robertson, Tony O'Martin, Ann Worley and Bill O'Brien will be reviewed by the Beckley City Council members. At an event called 'Seven Minutes to Better Beckley' each candidate will have 7-10 minutes to tell the Council how they plan to make Beckley a better city.
From there a vote will be cast and the candidate that receives 4 or more votes will become Mayor. Newswatch spoke with one of the candidates today to find out more.
"Well my goal when I retired as a police officer was still to serve the city of Beckley. I decided to run for Councilman At Large and I won, I served one term, but my work wasn't finished. My goal and my vision for the city of Beckley, as Mayor I can direct the city into the right path for the future," said Robertson.
Beckley citizens are encouraged to talk with their council member if they have any input on the selection of the Mayor as there will be no general election.
