BECKLEY - Classic traditions around the Christmas holiday include lights, decorative trees and the story of The Nutcracker

The Beckley Performing Arts and Beckley Dance Theatre put on their first Nutcracker performance on Friday at the Woodrow Wilson High School.

Professional dancers of all levels love to carry on this tradition that started over 100 years ago in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Owner of the dance company and director of the performance, Jerry Rose, said he is excited because he knows the audiences are in for a great show.

"I'm so excited for them to believe. Christmas is just as it was when we were children. Every one of us remembers awakening and running in to the Christmas tree and tonight. Everybody from ages 6 - 65 or 70 or even older... They'll be able to have that same excitement as seeing that Christmas tree come to life," said Rose.

The Nutcracker will be playing Saturday at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 2 PM.
