UPDATE - Former Raleigh County deputy Randy Burgess pleads guilty in Raleigh County Circuit Court Thursday on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge, after admitting to striking his nine-year-old daughter.  He says his police training prompted him to chase his daughter around their home when she ran from him. Because of this conviction, he is banned from law enforcement work for life.  Burgess received home incarceration until his January 22nd hearing on felony fraud charges, and he will not be allowed contact with his daughter.

BECKLEY - A former Raleigh County Sheriff's Deputy was scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning for a plea hearing.

Randy Burgess pleaded not guilty to an eight-count indictment on November 6 that included charges of fraud with an access device, breaking and entering of an automobile, embezzlement and impersonating a police officer.

Newswatch has a reporter at the hearing, and we'll have a full report coming up tonight at 5, 6, & 11.
