"Hole" in Beckley to be discussed at next common council meeting

BECKLEY - Plans are starting to move forward to fix a vacant area in uptown Beckley known as the "hole."

A fire on New Year's day last year destroyed several lots that were mostly owned by a local lawyer, as well as the city.

At Tuesday night's common council meeting, officials presented a proposal for a city building to be created in the portion that the city owns. It's scheduled to be put on the agenda for the next meeting.

William Dixon, a local business owner, hopes a decision is made soon because he believes the hole makes the area look bad. He describes area as a “negative-looking spot.”

The next meeting is scheduled for November 26 at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall.
