BLUEFIELD - Three Mercer County residents pleaded guilty for their part in the illegal distribution of powerful prescription painkillers.
Darryl Shrader, 52, of Spanishburg, Bobby Michael Short, Jr., 46, of Princeton, and Faith Michelle Akers, 44, of Princeton, all pleaded guilty to distributing hydromorphone. U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said that the three sold pills to a confidential informant in and around the Mercer County area. They face up to 20 years in prison at their sentencings scheduled for March 10, 2014.
The charges were brought forward as part of the Bluefield Pill Initiative, which is a collaborative effort designed to halt prescription drug trafficking in Mercer, McDowell, and Wyoming Counties.
