BECKLEY – The Beckley Area Foundation
(BAF) is raising money for local food pantries this holiday season.
BAF is setting aside $5,000 of West Virginia state
credits to leverage cash donations as part of the "Feeding our
Friends" initiative. Donations will benefit The Carpenter's Corner, Fishes
and Loaves, Heart of God Food Ministry, Helping Hands and Shepherd's Table.
The money will be donated as it comes in, so foundation
officials encourage folks to give back before the holidays approach. “Time is of the essence right now,
so that's why we immediately want to turn it back over to them going into the
holiday season,” said board president Mike Cavendish.
For donations of $500 or more, BAF can
award a state tax credit voucher for half of the donor's gift. Donations of
lesser amounts should be made directly to the food pantry.
Donations should be mailed or delivered to: The Beckley
Area Foundation, 129 Main Street, Suite 203, Beckley, WV 25801. The office is
located on the second floor of the United Bank Building in uptown Beckley.
Donors may direct their contribution to one or more of
the participating food pantries. If no designation is indicted, the donation will
be divided equally between the fire organizations.
Tax credits will be awarded on a first-come, first-served
basis. If the credits are exhausted, BAF will contact the donors to determine
if they still wish to make their gift.
For more information, call the BAF office at 304-253-3806.
The deadline for participating in the initiative is December 20.
