Richlands man arrested for alleged threats against public schools, police say

RICHLANDS - A Tazewell County man is facing charges after police say he made threats against several public schools.

Frankie Edward Smith, 42, of Richlands, was arrested Wednesday and faces two counts of threatening to bomb or burn a public buildings, according to the Richlands Police Department.

Lt. R. W. Brown would like parents in the area to know the threats were not received until after school was dismissed Wednesday, and that Smith was in custody before the start of school Thursday morning.

Smith remains in Southwest Regional Jail without bond, according to authorities.

Information about how the threats were received has not been released.
