CHARLESTON - West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey warned the state's residents to be cautious of companies who offered to sell them a copy of the deed to their home.

Morrisey's office said homeowners across the state received official-looking letters titled "Deed Processing Notice" that offered to sell homeowners a copy of their deed for $83.  The letters included language that lead homeowners to believe they had to comply by a certain date.  He said homeowners are not obligated to by a copy of the deed, and that the letters were not official.

Morrisey said he doesn't want residents to mistakenly believe they had to buy a deed by a fake due date.
