ATHENS - It has been almost sixty years since the color barrier was broken at Concord University. Billy Owens became the first African-American student-athlete in school history when he joined the Mountain Lion football squad for the 1954 and 1955 seasons.  Owens returned to campus last week to serve as grand marshal of the homecoming parade, and he was named honorary team captain in Saturday's football game against Fairmont State.  Owens says his classmates at then Concord College were polite and accepting.
