BECKLEY - A man is wanted for sexually assaulting a girl in Beckley.

The incident happened sometime after midnight Monday morning in the area between Johnstown Road, South Kanawha Street and Eisenhower Drive, according to Detective David Allard with the Beckley Police Department. Allard said a man climbed through the window of a residence and sexually assaulted the preteen.

It is believed the suspect is a tall, dark-skinned man with a medium build. Police are looking into whether there is any connection between the victim and the suspect.

Allard said police are doing everything they can to find the man who's responsible. "This is very alarming," he said. "Anytime you have an incident such as this, when a child is hurt, obviously it's something that we want to find the person responsible."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Police Department at 304-256-1708 or Crime Stoppers at 304-255-STOP. Police warned Beckley locals to take extra precautions at their homes by checking their doors and windows, and making sure the outside of their residences are well-lit.
