CHARLESTON - Four Southern West Virginia hospitals were honored for their success in organ and tissue donations.
Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, and Summersville Memorial Hospital were recognized by the Center for Organ Recovery and Education. Those four, along with 20 others in the state, received the West Virginia Governor's Award for Life in 2013.
Officials said more than 119,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant. Research showed that 50 lives can be saved or improved for every one person that donates their organs, tissues, and corneas.
