BECKWITH - The New River Humane Society was at capacity, and even if you can't adopt a dog or a cat, you could always volunteer.
"Anyway, anytime, they can walk the dogs, they can clean if they'd like, it helps the dogs to get interacted with people," said Brittney Smith.
With so many animals it makes it hard for employees to get all the dogs out on walks, or even trained, so if you think you have that special touch they encourage you to come out and help.
"We get a lot in here that are kind of skiddish and kind of scared," said Smith, "if we get somebody that's brave enough and comes to interact with them a little bit, maybe calm them down a little bit, it's good."
Even if you have a busy schedule, they're always looking for supplies including: towels, rags, blankets, cleaning supplies, dog and cat food, kitty litter, newspapers, collars, and leashes. Smith said that any little bit helps.
"It makes a really big difference, when the employees here need the help, and also the dogs and cats."
If none of these options work, you could foster, and then maybe fall in love and keep a dog or cat in their "fur-ever" home, because it's definitely all doable on a tank of gas.
