BECKLEY - As flu season approaches, medical professionals are encouraging folks to get vaccinated soon.
Candance Hurd, director of nursing at the Beckley-Raleigh County Health Department, said she typically recommends people to get flu vaccines in October, although she said it is never too early since it is hard to predict when the flu will strike. Nurses recommend everyone get vaccinated, but especially children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with existing health conditions.
Hurd said the vaccine helps keep people healthy during a time when the flu spreads. “Hand hygiene and your flu vaccine are your best safety nets,” she explained.
Prices vary according to the insurance provider. You can call talk to your doctor or call the health department at 304-252-8531 for more information.
