HINTON - More than 50 people are facing 172 charges after State Police carry out a county-wide drug roundup.
Authorities said the arrest of 54 people came after a Summers County grand jury and a nine-month long drug investigation that began in December. Cpl. John Cooper told Newswatch the majority of the arrests involved prescription pills.
Authorities carried out the roundup with the help of tips from the public. They believe a nation-wide drug problem destroys lives and hurts communities.
"Communities get frustrated," Cooper said. "Police get frustrated. It's a lot of work to be put into a drug investigation like this. We get a lot of concern from the community, and a lot of times the community gets frustrated with us because they don't feel like we're doing enough, but this is just the result. It does take time. We are working on it. We'll continue to work on this problem."
Cooper hopes he won't see the sames faces in custody again. Repeat offenders face bigger fines and longer jail time.
