BECKLEY - The man accused of setting a Raleigh County bar on fire waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday in magistrate court.
Charles David Quarles, 30, of Dry Creek, was arrested on six counts of arson last week for allegedly torching the Hillbilly Tavern in Rock Creek.
According to a criminal complaint, Quarles admitted that he was offered $1,000 to burn the bar down, but got scared when he said the fire went "poof," and ran away.
Public Defender Gary Frasier told Newswatch that Quarles' bond was reduced to $25,000. His case is now headed to the next session of the grand jury.
