Mercer County man wanted after suspicious package is found

BLUEFIELD - Authorities are searching for a Mercer County man responsible for mailing a suspicious package and causing the evacuation of a federal building Tuesday afternoon.

US Marshal Security Director Christopher Lair says the search is underway for Michael Cunningham, 51, of Camp Creek, for violation of his home confinement order. Cunningham is a white man, 5’10 and weighs 260 pounds.

A postal employee in the Kee Federal Building in downtown Bluefield discovered a parcel being mailed which was said to be "ticking". The package was examined and said to be containing "wires and electronic devices" the building was evacuated without incident.

Cunningham is on pre-trial release on fraud charges in Mercer County, his home monitoring device was inside the package. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
