BECKLEY - The numbers are in and
Raleigh County schools are highly ranked compared to the rest of the mountain
The district's mathematics scores are
tenth in the state, while reading and language arts scores are seventh in the
state, according to Superintendent Jim Brown. Nine of the county’s schools are
labeled as success schools, which is the highest level of designation by the
West Virginia Department of Education.
Brown said the schools need to remain
consistent in their message and purpose in order to continue with high rankings.
“This is not something that happens overnight,” he explained. “Raleigh County Schools
have had a long-standing tradition of excellence. It's just been great to be
part of building on that same excellence that they've had over the years.”
