CHARLESTON - The state's new Secretary of Veterans Assistance will travel across the state next month to listen to veterans.

Rick Thompson will open his five stop tour on September 11 at the Raleigh County Commission on Aging in Beckley.  Other stops include Barboursville, Clarksburg, Martinsburg, and Moundsville.  All events are open to the public.  Thompson said to successfully serve West Virginia's veterans, the state has to understand the needs they feel are the most important.

Thompson was the former Speaker of the House of Delegates.  He was appointed head of the Department of Veterans Assistance back in June.
