OAK HILL - It is a day of mourning for friends and family of the Loup Creek Fire Department after one of their own passed away Tuesday at Bowers Hospice House.

"He was a great friend to me. We have been together at the fire department since I was 15 years old," said Captain Terry Hamrick.

Kenny Johnston of the Loup Creek Fire Department was laid to rest Saturday surrounded by friends and family.

"Everything we've done, we've been through some good times and been through some bad times, and a whole lot of hot times," said Hamrick.

Johnston was a 35-year veteran at the Loup Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

"I really enjoyed the time I spent with him and I know he's going to be really missed in the community and I'm going to miss him," said Hamrick.

People who knew Johnston best fought back tears and say he will be missed but not forgotten.

"He is a guy I can always count on to be behind me and I'm going to miss him," said Hamrick.

Johnston was 53 years old.
