BECKLEY - Local organizations are raising money to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The West Virginia Oil Marketers and Grocers Association (OMEGA) is partnering with state chapters of Make-A-Wish to sell wish stars. You can buy these stars for $1 a piece at OMEGA member convenience and grocery stores.

Tambra Cheman, regional development and community liaison for Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia, said there are more than 120 children across the state who are waiting for their wishes to be granted. Cheman said Make-A-Wish makes a great impact on these kids' lives. "I can't even tell you what a gratifying feeling it is to see these kids - how it changes their lives, changes their outlook and just their overall well-being with what they're going through," she explained.

Lars, a Hodgkins Lymphoma patients from Summers County, said going on his wish trip greatly impacted him. "I know it really helped me recover, letting me focus on something else," he said. "You're not just taking a vacation from home, you're taking a vacation from being sick and recovering and that's really nice."

The fundraiser runs through the end of the month. Cheman said she is striving for Make-A-Wish to raise $200,000 during that time.
