CLEAR CREEK - A car crash in Raleigh County put a convicted felon from Georgia back behind bars.
Benjamin Payne. 47. was arrested by state troopers following further investigation into an accident on Toney Fork Road in Clear Creek Monday evening. During the initial investigation, troopers found a .38 caliber Ruger firearm with the serial number scratched off inside the vehicle Payne was driving. Through a check, troopers then discovered that Payne had felony convictions in several states.
Later that same day, officials executed a search warrant on a home in Clear Creek and arrested him without incident. Payne was charged with several driving violations, obstructing police officers, withholding information, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
He's currently out on bond.
