Food tax comes to an end

OAK HILL - If you notice a smaller bill at the grocery store, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you.

Sales tax on food is a thing of the past. Tomblin and then Governor Jow Manchin initiated the phase-out of the 6% food tax in 2005. Families have saved an estimated 162 million dollars a year sine then.

This phase-out applies to the purchase of food and food ingredients but not to the purchase of prepared and vending machine foods or soft drinks.
