Fayette Commission signs petition

FAYETTEVILLE - The Fayette County Commission held a meeting this morning in which a petition was brought to attention by the United Mine Workers of America. The Commission signed the petition in hopes to help retired miners keep their benefits from years of work. This comes after Patriot Coal filed for bankruptcy and possibly foregoing on retirees pensions. Nancy Massie, a wife a retired mine worker, brought the petition for the commission to sign and expresses her concern.

"This is very important as we have a lot of older people who are very worried about what is going to happen to them, so we felt this would be a good place to stop it," said Massie.

Massie also said this supports union and non-union workers. The petition will be sent to UMWA headquarters.
