Concord Baseball Jumps To 6th In Regional Rankings

ATHENS, W. Va. - Fresh off of winning the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, the Concord University baseball team moved up to sixth this week in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Atlantic Regional rankings, released Monday.

The Mountain Lions were a perfect 4-0 in the WVIAC Tournament with wins over West Liberty (5-1), Charleston (5-1), Fairmont State (6-3) and West Virginia State (11-4) to improve its record to 36-18 on the season, a school-record.

Millersville was ranked first followed by Seton Hill, Winston-Salem State, Kutztown, California (Pa.), the Mountain Lions, Mercyhurst, East Stroudsburg, Slippery Rock and Gannon.

The NCBWA Atlantic Region poll is not affiliated with the NCAA regional rankings, which determines what teams qualify for the upcoming NCAA Division II Tournament. The Atlantic Region will receive six bids to the NCAA Tournament with Concord already assured of a spot after automatically qualifying for the tournament due to winning the WVIAC championship.

The 2013 NCAA Tournament bracket will be revealed May 12 at 10:00 p.m.
