ALLOY - Police in Fayette County are investigating an armed robbery where the suspect ran off with cigarettes, cigars and more than $200.

The robbery happened at the Go-Mart in Alloy around 3:50 Thursday morning, according to deputies.

A white man approached the cashier at the night transaction window and asked for four packs of cigarettes. As the cashier was ringing him up, the suspect took out a gun and demanded the money from the cash register, four additional cigarette packs and some cigars. The cashier complied and the suspect ran toward Gauley Bridge.

The suspect is described as a slim white man, about five-feet-nine inches tall. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.

Sheriff Steve Kessler said the Go-Mart is located in a low-populated area and had been robbed before. "About all of the convenience stores through the county - especially the ones that are kind of outlying, a little bit isolated - most of them get [robbed] every now and then," he explained.

The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, Crime Stoppers, or Fayette County 911.
