SOPHIA - A former Sophia police officer was found guilty of charges that lead to his firing.
Raleigh County Magistrate Judge Richard Jones said that Damon McDowell was found guilty Tuesday for leaving a Beckley restaurant without paying the bill in March of 2012. McDowell was fined $25 plus court costs ($165.80). His defense attorney has filed paperwork to appeal the decision in Circuit Court. A date there has yet to be set.
