DIXIE - A Fayette County family is homeless after their house caught on fire Sunday afternoon.
Dispatchers said it happened around 1:30 p.m. at a house on Bell Creek Bottom Road. No one was home at the time. Gauley River, Gauley Bridge and Boomer Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene.
Homeowners Billy and Lois Morris said two pets died in the fire. They said the fire completely destroyed their house.
"We lost most of our house...back in June when the storm hit," said Lois. "And we've rebuilt since then and I guess we can do the same again."
Billy said his family lost nearly all of their belongings in the fire, but he said the community has been supportive. "We have had friends and people who gave us clothes," he said. "The clothes I'm wearing now come from people that brought stuff by."
The homeowners said they are living with family for the time being. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
