Greenbrier County Commissioner Betty Crookshanks was pulled over by Rainelle Police Friday for speeding in a school zone.

Police said Crookshanks was issued a citation for driving 28 miles-per-hour in a 15 mile-per-hour school zone. She was driving westbound on Kanawha Avenue by Rainelle Elementary School at about 3:10 in the afternoon.

"The traffic's at a heavy flow during that time," said Police Chief J. P. Stevens. "We have a crosswalk there and it's very imperative that people abide by the speed limit there."

Police monitor that zone for speeding violations on mornings and evenings, when an average of 75 students are crossing the street. Crookshanks is set to appear in Rainelle Municipal Court on December 27.
