Deputies Call Off Search For Alleged Intruder

The search for an alleged intruder has been called off.

Deputies got a call Thursday just before noon that a homeowner was shot at 259 Melrose Street in Springville, VA. When police arrived Chris Tibbs had a gunshot wound to the shoulder and he said he believes he surprised the alleged intruder who used his gun to shoot him; the gun was recovered.  Police used two tracking dogs, but neither one was able to pick up a scent.  Police have no one of interest, just a lot of questions to be answered.

"We're still working on the possibility of someone actually being in the residence with Mr. Tibbs when the shooting occurred," said Major Harold Heatley, with the Tazewell Co. Sheriff's Dept.

Deputies ask if you have any information on this crime to call them at 276-988-5966.
