Student Disciplined After Bringing Knife to School

A Mercer County middle school student is disciplined after he brought a weapon to school.

The Sheriff's Department says the boy brought a home made knife to school a few days ago.  The student claimed he brought it because he was being bullied, but deputies found no evidence of bullying.  Sheriff Don Meadows says this incident should remind parents to make sure their child isn't bringing illegal items to school.

"If they bring this in the morning in their book bag, there's no way to find it.  So, you have to depend on the parents making sure that isn't what they're taking to school with them," he says.

Meadows also says no one at the school was hurt in the incident.
