Three people remain in the hospital after a fatal five car accident in Fayette County Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff Steve Kessler said that a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Carl Cox, 50, of Edmond, was traveling West on Route 60 in Lavista. Cox tried to pass another car when he hit a Chevrolet Impala head on. Both the Tahoe and Impala were rear ended. A 91-year-old woman from Kentucky was pronounced dead at the scene. Cox is at Charleston Area Medical Center in "serious but stable" condition. The driver of the Impala is a 63-year-old man from Kentucky. He's still in "critical" condition. His passenger is a 64-year-old woman also from Kentucky. She's in "stable" condition. Their identities are being withheld pending notification of their families.
No criminal charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation.

Emergency responders were called out to Route 60 in Lavista just before 2 o'clock. Deputies say one car attempted to pass another and struck it head on. The cars then went sliding into three more. Neighbors say they heard a loud crash and ran out to the scene to find a car on fire and multiple people hurt, including a 91-year-old woman dead.
"The lady I think that I've seen in the front I know she had white hair and I think that's the one that passed away and I watched them as they tried to revive her they tried for at least 15 or 20 minutes, but she was gone," said Jewell Mosquera, a witness to the accident.
Three people are at Charleston Area Medical Center, two in critical condition, another in stable and a fourth person was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. The names of the victims have not been released. Deputies say road conditions contributed to the crash, but the Fayette County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the accident.
