BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (AP) — A Bluefield man has told a magistrate he
intends to plead guilty in the slaying of a longtime acquaintance.
The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports (bit.ly/Wfg91M) that 54-year-old
Donald Adams admitted guilt at a detention hearing Tuesday.
Adams is charged in the Monday night shooting death of John Watkins. The
victim's wife, Monica Watkins, also was shot and wounded.
Police Chief Joe Wilson says Adams was arrested about 5 a.m. Tuesday
after a short foot pursuit by officers. In court later, Adams said: "I'm
just going to plead guilty."
As he was being led away, Adams said he had known the couple for years
and borrowed money from them several times. He said he was high on crack
cocaine and intended to rob them Monday night.
