UPDATE: Police realse name in fatal train accident

RODERFIELD, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia State Police say a man was killed when he was struck by a Norfolk Southern train on a bridge in McDowell County.
Trooper J.R. Coburn in Welch says a 20-year-old male died at the scene and a 24-year-old female who fell 60 feet was in critical condition at Welch Community Hospital. A 29-year-old male who jumped from the tracks suffered less serious injuries.
Coburn says the three were walking on the tracks Thursday night near Roderfield.
State police on Friday said the man who died was Kenneth Neace of the Roderfield area.


RODERFIELD - A man was killed and two people were sent to the hospital following a train accident in McDowell County.

A freight train carrying 68 cars and two locomotives was traveling eastbound from Bellevue, Ohio to Macon, Georgia was approaching Roderfield around 11:30 p.m. Thursday when three trespassers were on the bridge just outside the Roderfield Tunnel, according to Norfolk Southern Spokesperson Robin Chapman.

Chapman said a man was struck and killed, a woman fell 60 feet and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, and another man jumped from the bridge and was able to walk. State Police in Welch told Newswatch that man was transported to the hospital as a precaution and is in good condition.

The accident remains under investigation.

RODERFIELD - Three people have been hospitalized following a train accident in McDowell County, according to emergency officials.

Dispatchers told Newswatch the accident happened around 11:30 p.m. Thursday in Roderfield on the tracks near Old Route 52. Roderfield Fire Department, State police and the McDowell County Ambulance Authority responded.
