BECKLEY - A Beckley couple says its newly renovated home was set on fire Wednesday by neighborhood criminals out for revenge.

Not much is left of the Mulberry Street home after it was destroyed in the 4 a.m. blaze. The Law family was two months away from moving in when it was burned down. It thinks their harsh stance against drugs in the neighborhood angered people around them.

Everything was destroyed, including a new Jacuzzi still in its box.

The Laws bought the home four years ago. They used stones from places they visited to decorate the front wall and described the property as their dream home.

The couple has been married for more than five years.

“He's a disabled vet,” Emanuela Law said about her husband. “We've been working a long time on this home. He had three knee replacements on one leg and a knee replacement on the other. He has chronic back problems, and it's our dream. It was our dream, and somebody just decided to toss a fire on it and burn it down. I'll rebuild it in Jesus’ name. Yes we will.”

Firefighters stayed on scene for about six hours. The Laws say no power was connected to the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
