BLUEFIELD – One month later, a clinic on wheels is celebrating its success in Southern West Virginia.
The Beckley VA Medical Center and its mobile clinic debuted last month, but officials say the success hasn't come without its hiccups.
The 38-foot bus is stocked with state of the art equipment and computers to aid veterans. They are still working through a trial run to collect data for future projects.
Officials say Mercer County has a significant concentration of veterans, and Beckley is too far for them to travel for primary care.
“So far in this last month we've seen right around 90 veterans,” says VA spokeswoman Debbie Voloski.
“We think is a really good start. There's around 3,500 veteran’s right here in Mercer County.”
The mobile clinic is staffed by 3 healthcare professionals and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
