MT. HOPE - A Fayette County museum created to showcase the past of an all-black high school will celebrate some of its students Saturday.
The DuBois on Main Museum and some of the school's former students will host a tour of the campus. Museum officials use the term "campus" lightly because when the school burned down in 1950, its students were forced to learn in temporary buildings and old storefronts.
Organizers hope the tour will help reveal the local history in our own backyard.
“There's probably local history wherever you are,” Jean Evansmore told WOAY. “We know about the national history. We know about what's been written in the books, and we know about what people tend to focus on constantly. My focus is here.”
The tour will begin Saturday at 1 p.m. Anyone interested in purchasing a $7 ticket can call 304-578-7707.
