BECKLEY – Thousands of dollars are raised at a sold-out black tie event benefiting the Raleigh County Humane Society.

The inaugural "Fur Ball" event was hosted at the Black Knight Country Club in Beckley last Friday.

Hundreds were at the event which raised more than $8,000.

Organizers say the fundraiser was a success and the sold-out crowd enjoyed the evening. They say without donations it would be impossible to stay open.

Director of the Humane Society Erica Stock says the donations go a long way.

β€œIt'll go towards out vet care for out animals; spaying and neutering, any kind of vaccinations and things like that, says Stock.

β€œ(It will) help them to make sure they're healthy and happy we can get them adopted,” adds Stock.

Organizers say they're already looking forward to next year's event.
