BECKLEY – Raleigh County votes today on school levy and bond funds. Money that officials say is vital to making the school system run.
The $22 million levy would support athletics, including coaches pay and transportation. It would also provide employee salary and benefits.
The school levy has been included in property taxes since 1941 and would not increase any current taxes.
If passed, the $39 million bond would go to facility upgrades including safety, energy, and sustainable land use improvements.
Despite the weather, locals were hitting the polls and making their voice heard.
“Any time there is an issue that comes up that's important - that's going cost the county financially, or individuals financially,” says voter Bobbi Thomas-Bailey, “I think it's important to go out and make your voice known.”
